Thought On Heaven
In 1 Peter 1:3-5 we see that we who are born again have living hope. The hope of an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away. So what makes the hope and promise of Heaven so special? First the Bible tells us that we will be there immediately upon our physical death (2 Cor. 5:8). Secondly, Heaven is a place of perfection. There will be no more sickness, sorrow nor death there (Rev. 21:1-6). Next thing to consider is Heaven is where our inheritance is (1 Peter 1:4). Another great aspect of Heaven is we believe that our saved loved ones will be there, and we will get to see them again and separation will be over.
So what else do we know about Heaven? We know that it is not a place of darkness (Rev. 21:23-27). Jesus was the light of the world while on earth (John 8:12), so why should we be surprised that He will be the light of eternity? Heaven will be a place without a sun, but it will have a Son and the Son will be the light of Heaven.
We know that Heaven is not a place of blindness (1 Corinthians 13:12). Here on earth, we are very familiar with physical blindness, the infirmity of blindness causes a person to not be able to see. The other type of blindness is spiritual blindness. We are born into sin, which is darkness and until we have the light, our spiritual eyes cannot see either. While there is not cure for physical blindness, the cure for spiritual blindness is Jesus. He came to open the eyes of the blind. When we get to Heaven, we will not know less, but more, we will get to meet the saint of all the ages, we will have eternity to get to know Jesus, and the good news is, because of this fact that we know more in Heaven than we do now, why would we not believe that we will know our loved ones. Without doubt, we will know our loved ones in Heaven.
Heaven is a place of perfection. It is the place where Jesus makes things right( 1 Thess. 4:13-18). In this verse, Paul is giving comfort to those at Thessalonica that those who have died in the Lord are with God in Heaven, not rotting in the ground. He uses the term “Fallen asleep,” to refer to those who are saved and have died, because they will one day be resurrected, so the body is compared to sleeping. Then Paul assures those in Thessalonica, that when the Lord returns, they will know it, he tells them that there will be trumpet blasts and shouts from the archangel. It’s an event you won’t miss. Paul also says to comfort one another with these words. The thought of heaven should be comforting for the believer. Heaven is a place where the things of the world will never again have dominion over us. We will no longer battle the flesh, the devil or the world. Paul gives comfort to those in Thessalonica by reassuring them that they will indeed see their loved ones who have died in the Lord once again. The verse really is an invitation to a family reunion. It speaks of a wonderful time of fellowship when we will see our saved loved ones who have gone on before us. We will surely see our saved loved ones again and we will have the sweet fellowship of Heavenly love to share for all eternity.
To end this article, let me ask you the most important question ever. Are you ready to meet Jesus? Are you part of the family of God? Do you know for sure that one day you will fellowship with Jesus and your loved ones? If you’re not part of God’s family right now, this very moment is the time to become a child of God, you have the right to become a child of God (John 1:12), the question is, do you have the desire? James says your life is like a vapor, its only here for a moment and then it’s gone, you’re not guaranteed your next breath. 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation.” If you have hopes of Heaven, or seeing your loved ones who were believers in Christ who have passed on, then you must choose Jesus.
